I Fear

the church
subjugates the state
the new dark ages
are at the door

the arrogant few
strive to impose
a fascist
right-wing tyranny

innocent youth
is violated
the victims
of evil predators

poverty
hunger
and homelessness
staggeringly increases

the twisted rich
glut and pillage
the world’s economy
collapses

earth’s ecology
brutally abused
apathy and denial
proliferates

individual rights
and responsibilities
stripped away
by rule of law

entertainment
celebrates violence
humankind
is desensitized

art and culture
slowly succumbs
to the world’s lust
for tools of war

rampant technology
far outpaces
humanity’s wisdom
to deploy

all of this
deeply alarms
our world
has so much to learn

but I fear
we’ve reached our tipping point
still I hope
the earth has time
