…the three photos that follow here are of my 2010 backyard

Breathe Deep

I sit
writing at my desk

a cool afternoon breeze
wafts through the open window
enfolds me in the fragrance of spring
the heady scent of living earth
an addictive bouquet
intoxicating

slowly
the aromatic collage unfolds

red cedar
douglas fir
ponderosa pine
western hemlock
drift in fresh and tart

the scent of
grasses
moss
loam
spice the ionized mountain air
laced with a sweeter
more delicate
perfume
of
tulip
easter lily
eager daffodil
traces of early iris
entwine with the scent
of caroline wisteria
elderberry buds
rhododendron
may holly
cherry

each savored inhalation
lifts my spirit

enjoying slow
deep breaths
exhaling fully
a sense of calm
fills my being
a oneness

my quiet reverie
frees a smile

I remember
