Morphling

Morphling

I will not be confined
always in motion
eternal ebb and flow
perpetual like the seas

my spirit an eternal liquid
in everlasting flux
expands unrestrained
seeking freedom

I will not be defined
my nature is fluid
my essence is turbulent
deep but ever changing

my heart in constant surge
challenges boundary
seeking balance that is mine
to change at will

reach not for me
I will not be held
do not name me
I will not be yours

  1. Tess Kincaid Says:

Liquid and beautiful, like the sea.

  2. Helen Says:

Rob, this is beautiful, deep and so much like the artist she was.

  3. Christopher Says:

That which cannot be held is not held.
That which is held shall be lightly held.
The iridescent scaling of my skin
translates feather light as I take wing.
My voices sing harmony from ten thousand feet.
Small furry things still beneath me and
stop their beating, beating flesh to escape
the ravenous sweep of me, to escape
the cold light of my eye.

  4. flipside records Says:

    I love this:

    “my spirit an eternal liquid”

    And your closing:

    “do not name me
    I will not be yours”

Morphling reminds me of the Hunger Games trilogy. Have you read the books?

  5. Rob Kistner Says:

Yes, I read the complete trilogy a couple years ago — liked the books much more than the first movie… the scope of the first book is much too large to be captured effectively in a 2-hour flik…

  6. brian miller Says:

    I will not be defined
my nature is fluid…i like those lines…and in reading her bio i think you captured a bit of her soul in this as well…

  7. Leah M. James Says:

The two lines “I will not be confined” and “I will not be defined” almost made it in my post as well! I love it.

  11. Linda Fraser Says:

I love how poignantly you’ve expressed the fluid spirit of this poem, Rob. The spirit floats. peacefully so. Thank you for sharing this.

  12. Sharp Little Pencil Says:

Rob, this is the essence of the free spirit, the creator of art. We are not confined by relationships, even when we choose to be in them; we are not defined by society’s rigidity.

A declaration of independence as well as en explanation to the layperson of what it takes to be a fully realized artist. This was lovely, Rob, and thanks for sharing at Poets U! Peace, Amy

So what you’re saying is that you won’t be joining us for dinner?
    Poets. :)
    Seriously, though, this was wonderful.

  14. Rob Kistner Says:

Yes Rene, that is what I am saying — among a number of other things… :)

  15. Little Nell Says:

A restless and elusive spirit indeed, but one which is strong and knows her own mind I think.

  16. John Allen Richter Says:

Definitely a bit of a tease and now a challenge! “I won’t be held…” hhmmmmm…. Johnny likes a challenge! Any woman who appears before me as a half opened gift will become mine! LOL!
