    The Light

    By Rob Kistner | July 7, 2008

    The Light

    even the smallest light
    of wisdom
    burning in the pitch black
    of ignorance
    casts its glow far-reaching

    • • •
    __________________________

    the pitch black
    of ignorance
    succumbs
    to the simplest
    light of wisdom

    • • •
    __________________________

    (haiku)

    one can penetrate
    the pitch black of ignorance
    wisdom is the light

    • • •
    __________________________

    (haiku)

    lightless ignorance
    cannot vanquish absolute
    seek the light of truth

    • • •
    __________________________

    (haiku)

    lightless ignorance
    does not rise impregnable
    wisdom’s light will pierce

Very true words, indeed. And the candle stands as a great metaphor.

Love the last line; ending with the words “far-reaching” is a good choice.

      From Dictionary.com:
Cliche: A trite, stereotyped expression; a sentence or phrase, usually expressing a popular or common thought or idea, that has lost originality, ingenuity, and impact by long overuse.

It is actually the job of the poet to AVOID writing cliched prose, rather than celebrate it.

Come on– candles, wisdom, casting its glow!!??
      This is horrid!!

I take it you didn’t find this suite to your liking. ;)

Thank you for your words of wisdom, and for setting me straight on just what the poet’s job must be.
