Full Stride

Dedicated to my wife, Kathy, a blazing sprinter grade school through college…

—-<§>—-

muscles coiled
she explodes
igniting raw speed

two steps—
already at velocity

strength flows low
through center

taut beautiful legs
dig deep—
…flowing
…pure

every motion—
…precise
…inevitable

she runs
for the exhilarating joy
of running

a burning yes
to life—
…uncontained
…fierce

magnificent…!

  1. ANY runner in full stride is a beautiful picture.
(Although my son, who was an accomplished sprinter in high school, was gangly and awkward when he was younger.)

    1. Thank you, Lisa and yes, she did. Let me catch her. Honestly, I still find that hard to believe. I have to check it out, because I don’t remember clearly the dance on pulp fiction. Yeah, I grabbed those three songs on — two of them specifically address to running, and I just love the tempo of the last one — was just like running fast.

    1. Yes it’s a joy Björn. I was a strong runner, long distance — but Kathy was fast as the wind, even made after her college, she still could run like a deer! She blew my mind. she was state Sprint champ twice when she was in high school went to college on scholarship. I used a still from a video I have of Kathy running on the beach in Naples, Florida during our honeymoon in 1989. At that point she’s been out of college for six years, and that is still what she looked like when she ran — she was quite amazing. I saw videos of her on her college team… WOW indeed.

    1. Yes it sure can be Rosemary. 🙂 It’s one aspect of humanity that reaches to a complete level of excellence. Just like a singing voice just like writing it’s human endeavor taken to the 10th°.

  2. Magnificent, Rob! You created a picture of pure grace and beauty. Did you read this out to Kathy?

    1. Thank you Punam… 🙂 I did presentnitnto her, tears from both of us, remember the power snd bitality of youth. For Kathy this occurred before we met, but I was told all about it by Kathy her family and her friends I saw lots of pictures spoke to two of her coaches. She was a hell of an athlete, even after we were together for years even into 60 she was active. She’s just now starting to slow down because of the cancer.

    1. I haven’t run for quite a few decades, but when I was playing football and baseball, and performing as lead singer of my rock bands, I also ran track. I was a good long-distance runner. Quick and strong. I was not a bad person to run the 400, or in the 4 x 400 relay, but I never ran a swift nearly as fast as Kathy. She’d been out of college for 4-5 years when we met — and she still ran like the wind. I saw videos of her on her college track team. She was quite amazing. She dominate the meet’s she was in.
