Original DDE™ surreal art: “Pieces of a Life” by: rob kistner © 9/2/25
Frayed and frazzled
the binding cord of time
unfurls and unfurls
I have been entangled
all my days
it has bound me to its emerging miracles
so too its harsh lessons
carrying me into my future
but so much has been lost to me
shapes scattered in its sands
smooth and seductive
impossible to… g a t h e r
but for others to find
and collect and hold towards the sun
and to know
— YES…
I am {{{ n e a r g o n e }}}
— but before I go, please know
it was so beautiful here —

I like how the smooth and seductive are difficult to gather. That’s a really amazing idea.
Elusive… Thank you Aaron.
Rob, Welcome Back!!!!!! You must have felt me thinking about you a couple of days ago. Please do tell what’s been happening with you. You have been missed! I went on a couple month blogging break and when I got back you were gone.
Kidney failure, 3 kidney surgeries, 8 day’s hospitalization for SEPSIS, causing significant loss of balance which has made walking a real challenge. I have had a signiificant degredation in my heart faiure. I coaded when in hospital months too get my writing clarity restored. It has taken me nine months to get my mojo to write reengaged. I am still going slowly to get up to speed again with my Original DDE™ surreal art — but I am doing all of these things meticulously careful. Buy I am alive, so I am grateful. I am going to come back gracefully.
I’m so pleased to see you back at the poets’ pub again, Rob, albeit ‘frayed and frazzled’. These lines touched me deeply:
‘but so much has been lost to me
shapes scattered in its sands
smooth and seductive
impossible to… g a t h e r’.
Hang on in there.
It is wonderful to be back Kim. Gonna take it slow and easy. 🙂
Rob, I had been away for more than a couple of months and to come back and read your beautiful reflection. Life like memories can be elusive st times. Take care and stay well.
I have been trying to make sense if it all… ????
Rob, your poem carries a deep sense of reflection and loss over the passage of time, there is something very haunting about it your search for meaning in this transient world ??
Haunting and surreal most certainly,
Rob, so glad to see you here, I thought about you just the other day, and from the comments above I recon you had some hard times. Hope you get better with us together.
Been hard Björn, chaotic, and confusing — but I am still above ground.
Happy to see you, Rob.
“— but it was so beautiful here” indeed.
It was dark — but it was ibeautiful.
Have missed you Rob, glad you are able to be back. This is a poem that hits me hard, the sense of endings and especially the sand image.
