Sweet Sleep

at the zero hour

everything tilts quiet

I feel the world

loosen its grip

my breath steadies

my thoughts drift

I turn from the wreckage of my day

to start over

sleep has found me—

it’s the small mercy

my bones still believe in

  1. Rob, wonderful poetry and artwork. They compliment each other. At the zero hour I think magic could happen as one slips into wondrous sleep.

    1. Oh my do I know Melissa. Ever since my hospitalization for SEPSIS the beginning of the year, I have no stamina. I fall asleep during the day just sitting reading, but I’m an insomniac at night? Go figure!?

  2. Sleep really is the zero hour until we start coming to and dreaming all the silly creations our mind makes.
Peace for a little while is better than none.
    Well done Rob!

    1. Thank you so much Dwight. The older I’ve become the more precious sleep has become — because it comes difficult for me as insomnia becomes more set in — but I am most thankful for what I do get… 🙂

  3. I love that feeling when I first lay down my head, but I wish I could stay asleep longer. I think you captured it so well in the phrase ‘everything tilts quiet’. Nicely done, Rob.

    1. I hear and feel you Eric. I am always weary, on the verge of sleep, and nod out frequently reading, or watching TV — but haven’t found deep rejuvenating sleep in a number of years. It has worsened since my hospitalization with SEPSIS earlier this year. Wish you well… 🙂
