Misting Quiet Skies

under the misting quiet skies

a crow drifts west — its shadow long

the trees exchange their peaceful sighs

as vespers bring the voice of calm

a crow drifts west  — its shadow long

under the misting quiet skies

the earth deep in thought and wonder

asking questions with no answer

the trees exchange their peaceful sighs

a crow drifts west  — its shadow long

under the misting quiet skies

its heart knows true which way home lies

as vespers bring the voice of calm

the trees exchange their peaceful sighs

a crow drifts west  — its shadow long

under the misting quiet skies

Rain clouds gather…

I listen for love’s sweet music

I wander through both fire and rain

love’s contradictions tear my eyes

frustration sings a sad refrain

as skies grow dim — and night draws near

I listen for love’s sweet music

I watch as the world sharp and clear

begins to fade ‘neath gloaming skies

each shining thing I dive to claim

through beat of heart or soulful sigh

I listen for love’s sweet music

I call to love — get no reply

like a crow soaring open sky

my wings recall that dream to fly

my soul still burns — my heart stays true

I listen for love’s sweet music

  1. A beautiful Quatern, Rob. I love the peacefulness of the repeating line, the crow drifting west with its long shadow, and trees exchanging sighs. I’m ready to face the day now.

    1. Thank you very much Kim. I have had a long year of health challenge, including 8-days hospitalized with severe SEPSIS. I still battle balance issues and my has its moment — but I am loving writing poems again.l I feel I havei mellowed!

  2. Rob! You’re back!! Welcome. I am glad to see you here. Glad you are fighting through your health challenges.
Your poem is wonderful. I feel like I am in the high mountains among the tall redwoods soaking in everything around me.

  3. It’s wonderful to see you here again, Rob. Having a hard, if not impossible, time leaving comments for you. This may be my last ditch effort. LOL
