Lil’Queen’s Warning

~

I’m bad as brass knuckles and smooth as silk
I’m lush and lazy — and I ain’t no fool
my name’s Lil’Queen and I’m cravin’ fresh milk
I prance like a royal — regal and cool
I prowl like a panther — ‘cause those cats rule
I take no lip from no-bo-dy-no-way
get on my radar and you better pray
I’m a hip kitty and I got no fear
so sit back, shut up, and hear what I say
betta’ steer clear dear — whenever I’m near

    1. What a beauty! (And the poem’s nice too.)

Lol, sorry, couldn’t resist; if there’s anything I love better than a black cat, it’s a black cat with white whiskers. The poem is a perfectly executed dizain, and it’s a pleasure to see the form being used light-heartedly, to such good effect.

      1. Thank you Rosemary. Our black cat Taja had white whiskers, with a little white ascot on her chest. She was beautiful — and talk about attitude. She was queen of all she surveilled — and she let you know in no uncertain terms. She was so cool… 🙂

    2. Oh, Rob, what a great rhythm you’ve got going here. It’s just fab. I love that sweet and sassy voice – definitely knows who’s in charge! Great use of the form.

    3. Loved this, especially the nested rhymes at the end.

In the hip-hop community, we call the way you ended this poem “going haam”. HAAM, being an acronym for Hard As A Mother… well you get the idea. It’s a very good thing to go haam on your verses. 🙂

      1. Thank you Barry, I appreciate that! I have had people call me “a ham”, not as a compliment. But I find it damned cool that you consider my wrap-ups as having gone HAAM. I like to end with a hard hit, or a powerful twist. Glad you told me about HAAM Barry. I love knowledge!

    4. lol you really nailed cats arrogant attitude in this one Rob, you know them well! Great use of this interesting format

    5. I like the staccato format, like Lil’ Queen is spitting it out. The photo is just right. Cats can be pure heaven or pure evil, depending on which mood hits them. My cat, Mlady Crumpet Chronos (she keeps getting names added), is sweet 90% of the time, but that 10% is quality evil 😉
